Hopkins falls to strong Westminster team
On a blustery autumn afternoon, Hopkins faced off against Westminster School in front of a homecoming crowd. Unfortunately, the Hilltoppers would face their 3rd straight defeat, falling to a very physical Westminster squad 44-6.
Westminster started with the ball and scored quickly, driving 75 yards in 3 plays (including a 50 yard TD run) to go up 6-0. After a quick 3 and out for the Hilltoppers, Westminster put together another TD drive, this time capitalizing on a long 4th down completion to keep the drive alive. Westminister continued to capitalize on their strong offensive line, scoring on their 3rd successive possession with a long TD run. The Hilltoppers entered the half down 22-0 but felt they could take away some positives, stopping Westminister shortly before halftime on their own goal line. Hopkins started the second half strong, putting together a 15-play, 72 yard drive which resulted in an impressive touchdown run by Dave Barber to make the score 22-6. While Hopkins would continue to play physical, they were unable to rebound any further and the game would end 44-6.
The coaching staff was proud of the team for putting in such a physical performance. Hopkins will look to improve off of this as they travel to Rye Country Day for a 1:00pm game.
