2nd Annual Black Commencement

On Wednesday, June 4, the Black Student Union held its 2nd annual Commencement ceremony to honor their graduating seniors.

The Hopkins School Black Commencement Ceremony served as a pre-commencement celebration specifically honoring students belonging to the Black diaspora. In recognition of the unique experiences and contributions of Black students, the ceremony celebrated their unwavering determination and perseverance throughout their high school career, and also served as a tribute to Black cultural heritage, fostering a sense of community and academic excellence. A key element of the ceremony was the presentation of Kente stoles, to symbolize the students' journey and connection to their ancestry.

This year's Black Commencement welcomed students, families, parents, alums, faculty, and other members of the community to join the celebration. With beautiful weather, the group enjoyed a keynote address from alum Darius Bittle-Dockery '06, and a special performance by Samia Kirton '25. Graduates were inducted into the Hopkins Black Alumni Network by Michelle Mays '00. 

With many thanks to all who helped to plan the event and coordinate including Dante Brito Jr., Hughes Fitzgerald, Shanti Madison, and Becky Harper '07. Without their efforts and energy, the event would not have been possible.
