Hilltoppers Win With Stellar Defense

What a fantastic team win for Hopkins in what was a low scoring showdown with Kingswood-Oxford. Hopkins took the lead early and never trailed, but the game was close from the first whistle to the last, turning into a true defensive test for the Hilltoppers. Our defense was strong against the drive all day, but our girls were particularly impressive in the final minutes of the game. The Wyverns had a long offensive possession but were prevented from having any real scoring opportunities until they were awarded a free position with two minutes remaining. With the score tied 5-5, Freshman goalie Violet Wich made an incredible save and a quick clear to Marin Ciardiello who safely transitioned up the field. Claire Banks made a strong drive to draw a second defender, kicking the ball back to Ciardiello who fed an open Lauren Sklarz on a perfectly timed cut in front of the cage. Sklarz scored the game winner with one minute remaining. The Hilltoppers won the draw and kept possession to seal the victory! We are so proud of the mental endurance the entire team showed in pulling off this win.
