Dr. Dale Caldwell ’78 was recently sworn in as Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey. In this role, he also serves as New Jersey’s Secretary of State. This achievement represents the latest chapter in a career focused on public service and civic engagement.

Prior to assuming his current position, Caldwell served in senior roles across the public and private sectors, including Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, founding executive director of the Newark Alliance, executive director of the Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and senior manager at Deloitte Consulting. He also served for 26 years on the New Brunswick Board of Education, including six years as board president.

Dr. Caldwell previously served as President of Centenary University, concluding his tenure in 2025 before entering state office.

Caldwell returned to Hopkins School in 2024 as the School’s Distinguished Alumnus, where he spoke with students about leadership, resilience, and the importance of finding one’s voice. During his visit, and in this article in VIEWS Magazine, he reflected on his experience as a Hopkins student and the role the School played in shaping his personal and professional path.
