Hopkins Math Team Excels at State and Regional Contests
The Hopkins Math Team had a strong showing throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, consistently placing in the top bracket of matches across competitions, including state and regional contests.
Out of fifteen students participating on the Math Team, six top-performing students were chosen to compete in the state and regional contests. Those students were Dide A. ’27, Caryn K. ’26, Felyx W. ’27, Aurelia W. ’27, Jonathan Z. ’28, and Elaine Z. ’29.
Out of the state and regional matches, the team took first place in the Greater New Haven Mathematics League (GNHML), which included five contests over the course of the fall through February. Jonathan Z. was the top scorer amongst all students in GNHML. In March, the team placed third in the Connecticut Association of Mathematics Leagues state match (CSAML), with Elaine Z. taking second place in the freshman category. In May, the team took home second place at the New England Association of Mathematics Leagues contest (NEAML).
“The NEAML has become a yearly event for us. I drove six students up there and we had a great time,” said club adviser and Math/Computer Science teacher Dan Gries.
