Hilltoppers Fall to 1-1 at MoBeard Homecoming Weekend

On Friday, September 26th, the Hilltoppers departed New Haven for Morristown, NJ to face off against the Morristown Beard Crimson.  This was MoBeard’s annual homecoming game, and in front of a lively crowd the Crimson defeated the Hilltoppers 27-12.

The game started slow for both sides, as Hopkins defense held strong but had trouble sustaining drives on offense which capped the scoring at 7-0 heading into halftime.  The second half was more positive for the Crimson offensively, as they pulled ahead to a 27-0 lead and were in control.  As the game progressed into the 4th quarter, the Hilltoppers had two big plays that closed the scoring gap in Hopkins favor.  On a Morristown Beard run, defensive lineman Dillon C. ‘28 stripped the ball from the Crimson ball-carrier and raced 57 yards into the endzone to make it 27-6.  On the Hilltoppers next offensive possession, they found the endzone again on a Tommy C. ‘27 pass to Dylan M. ‘28 from 30 yards out to make it 27-12.  The Hilltoppers attempted a MIFL “Onsides-Kick play” (a 4th and 20 offensive play from Hopkins' own 40 yard-line) and connected on the opportunity, but unfortunately the play was called back for a penalty and the Crimson were able to run out the remaining clock.

Hopkins will be on the road again this upcoming weekend as they travel down to King School in Stamford.  They will look to improve upon their 1-1 record and we hope to see many fans in attendance!
